Untitled Werewolf Script

EXT. FOREST - NIGHT.

THYME is running through the forest, weaving between the trees. Her white blouse is damp, she’s shoeless and there is a large run in her stockings. She’s running fast, her hair is loose and tousled. The scene cuts to the large grey wolf bounding in the same direction through the trees. The scene cuts back and forth, back and forth.

CUT TO - EXT. RESIDENTAL STREET – EVENING.

THYME climbs off the bus into a dark street. She’s smartly dressed in a knee length pencil skirt, blouse with her long hair neatly tied back.

CUT TO – EXT. DRIVEWAY OUTSIDE HOUSE - EVENING

THYME walks past a car in the driveway that looks brand new. She unlocks the door and steps into the house, locking it behind her.

CUT TO – INT. HOUSE – EVENING.

She picks up the mail on the doormat as she removes her shoes. She walks through the dark house and we see her name on the front of each piece of mail, until one reads ‘THYME AND JAMES’. She stares at it for a few seconds. Lining the walls we see photos of her and a man together. She walks into the kitchen, and pulls out a saucepan; fills it with water; and gets out a packet of dry pasta. Still gazing at the letter in her hand, she pours enough for two into the pan.

THYME
Damn!

She attempts to scoop some pasta back out, but it’s dripping wet. She sighs and drops it back in. She lights the stove and claps a lid down on the saucepan. Far away, scraping noises are heard, and THYME turns her head. The noises are coming from behind a door in the kitchen. She walks to the door and opens it. She flicks a switch beside the door and we see down the stairs into a dark basement. The scraping noise is louder now. The light is swinging slowly back and forth at the bottom of the stairs. She doesn’t flinch and walks down the stairs.

INT. BASEMENT - NIGHT

A large cage; that is seen each time the light swings; sections off half of the basement. THYME approaches the cage, and suddenly a large grey vicious looking wolf throws itself against the other side of the cage bars. As THYME calmly kneels down on a cushion on the cement floor, the wolf throws itself at the bars, clawing and snarling. She brushes a stray hair back behind her ear, and puts on a pair of reading glasses. She then delicately opens the envelope that she was carrying. She takes the letter out, and carefully unfolds it. The wolf frantically attacks the bars of it’s cage, and THYME begins to read the letter aloud.

THYME
Dear Thyme and James, I hope you’re both well…

CUT TO - FOREST. NIGHT.

THYME is again running through the forest. She is slowly tiring; she stumbles over rocks and through branches that tear at her clothes.

CUT TO – PATH OUTSIDE FOREST. NIGHT.

APRIL is walking along the path, her arms filled with books and clutter. She hears a scream coming from in the woods. Her first action is to glance upwards at the moon that we see is only half full. There’s a crease at her eyebrows, but she drops what she’s carrying and races off through the forest.

CUT TO – FOREST – NIGHT

We see THYME on her knees; she’s tripped over a low branch. She struggles to her feet, and we hear a growl. She crouches and stares. The wolf stares back at her, snarling. They slowly circle each other until the wolf pounces. There is a brief struggle, and the wolf bites down on her arm. She whimpers with pain, but her eyes don’t leave the wolf. The wolf backs away and runs away from her, and THYME gives chase.

CUT TO – FOREST - NIGHT

APRIL is running through the trees. She hears the wolf’s bounding approach, and she looks around frantically. She sees a half broken branch on one of the trees, and she pulls and twists it with great effort. It finally snaps off, and she takes it and lies in wait. When the wolf bounds into the clearing she swings the branch and manages to hit it around the head. It falls to the ground and lies motionless. THYME appears on the scene, breathing heavily from her running. She screams and throws herself over the wolf’s body, sobbing. APRIL hesitates, her knuckles white as she still clings to the branch.

APRIL
I just rescued you… I thought…

APRIL drops the branch and walks over to the wolf. She crouches beside THYME, and runs a hand over the wolf.

APRIL (CONT’D)
It’s still breathing.

THYME seems to cry harder, and she strokes a hand through the wolf’s fur. APRIL notices the bite on her arm.

APRIL (CONT’D)
You’re hurt! …I’ll take you home. Do you live far?

THYME
Not without the wolf. I won’t leave it. Will you help me?

APRIL hesitates, and THYME clings to the wolf’s body, her arm bleeding steadily.

CUT TO – THYME’s BASEMENT.

The two women heave the unconscious wolf across the basement floor. APRIL is casting her eyes around the room. The door of the cage is open, and the padlock broken. The women carry the wolf into the cage. THYME’s blouse sleeve is missing, and her bitten arm has been bound messily. They leave the wolf in the cage and THYME locks the wolf in. She uses a different padlock on the cage door, and then uses rope to bind the door for extra security. In the wolf’s cage there is a food and water dishes, but their contents have been scattered.

THYME leads APRIL back up the stairs into the KITCHEN. She puts the kettle on to boil. APRIL glances around the kitchen and notices the large saucepan of pasta, and photos pinned on a notice board of THYME and the man.

APRIL
Who is he?

THYME
Would you like a cup of tea?

APRIL
The wolf… who is he?

THYME doesn’t answer. She busies herself pouring the tea, but her bitten arm is shaking.

APRIL (CONT’D)
You’ve been bitten! Do you know what that means?

THYME
I don’t know what you’re talking about.

APRIL
You don’t have to lie. I understand more than you think I do. I can help you.

THYME
It’s a bite… that’s all. Just a bite.

APRIL
The wolf… it’s the man in the pictures.

THYME squeezes her eyes shut, turning her back on APRIL.

THYME
You’re mad.

THYME picks up her cup of tea, but her arm is shaking. She shrieks as she drops the cup and it’s contents spill across the floor as the cup shatters. She crouches down and carefully tries to pick up the smashed pieces of cup.

APRIL (sadly)
You know you’re going to change, don’t you.

THYME
You’re mad! Get out! Get out!

APRIL
You’ve got two weeks until the next moon. When you change your mind, find me.

APRIL leaves, and as soon as she’s gone, THYME drops the pieces of cup and they clatter back to the floor. She sits quietly amongst the mess, until we hear faint whining and scraping. The noise grows louder, and we hear that it is coming from behind the door again. THYME shakily gets to her feet and picks her way over the broken ceramic and heads back down into the basement.

As she nears the cage, the wolf whines again and again with pain. She kneels down on the cushion on the floor. She takes her glasses from her blouse pocket, but sees that they’re now broken. She places them on the floor and then takes the letter from earlier from her pocket. She takes the letter from its envelope and lovingly unfolds it again. She holds it in her hands; her right arm is still shaking. She fixes her eyes on the injured wolf and her expression is full of hatred. She reads the letter out loud, without her eyes leaving the wolf.

THYME
Dear Thyme and James, I hope you are both well…
